Batch 1997 Virtual Reunion

February 20, 2022 saw the virtual reunion of OBMC Batch 1997, held via Zoom in celebration of their 25th anniversary. This particular batch is best known by their legacy, the OBMC hymn.

During the batch’s high school graduation, Mr. Kim Chua, then Student Council President, marked February 20, 2022, a palindrome date for their reunion on their 25th anniversary.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic starting from 2020 and continuing into 2022, Batch 1997 still kept that promise online. Over 60 participants from the Philippines, UK, USA, and Canada attended, in spite of other activities like weddings and other gatherings.

Preparations for this event began in December 2020, with the theme “family means no one gets left behind”. This meant everyone enrolled in the batch would be invited to attend, whether they graduated from OBMC or not.

Spearheading this event was Kim Chua, Student Council President of Batch 1997, who handled Mrs. Preciosa S. Soliven’s speech for this reunion. He took on the task of requesting Dr. Preciosa S. Soliven to grace the occasion and to give a speech to the batch. Myralyn Padilla managed the batch directory and was responsible for informing everyone through the chat groups in Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp and Viber about the reunion. Handling the teasers and invitations was Jo-Anne Mirabueno, who was also in charge of admitting attendees to the virtual reunion.

Teachers who attended online included Mr. Percival R. Datuin, Ms. Aida De Los Reyes, Mrs. Illuminada Duran, Mr. Elias Guevara, Jr., Mrs. Gladys Muñoz, Ms. Anna Saa, Mrs. Ma. Teresa Sanchez, and Mrs. Visitacion Ongpauco.

In the spirit of reminiscing old times, the reunion featured a throwback compilation of photos and videos from fellow batchmates. Participants also shared a self-introduction and their fondest memories of OBMC. Highlights of the event included fun and games for all, with activities like trivia sharing and video karaoke sing-along sessions.

Keeping with the theme of family, the batch also paid respects to batchmates who passed away but are always remembered, including Francis Paolo Blanco, Anne Jeanette Castillo, Anthony Linsangan, Kate Vargas, and Dr. Jacqueline Vergara who died of COVID-19.

Batch 1997 is riding high from this reunion, with a hybrid face-to-face and online event scheduled for October 22, 2022. This is not only for batchmates in the Philippines, but those abroad may also attend via virtual meet-up. If you’re a member of Batch 1997, please look forward to this upcoming event!
